Day 1: USA - Lima Arrive at the airport in Lima (LIM) after your flight from the USA.Upon arrival, a host will meet you, transfer you to the hotel and assist you with hotel check in.Accommodation in Lima (B)Day 2: Lima Breakfast at the hotel.Tour of Colonial and Modern Lima and a Visit to the Gold Museum - This half day tour visits both the colonial and modern sections of this City of Kings. Colonial sites include the lovely Plaza de Armas with its cathedral and palace, and the exquisite Torre Tagle Palace, modern day seat of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In modern Lima, drive along the exclusive residential areas of Miraflores and San Isidro. Then visit Peru's famous museum which houses a priceless collection of pre-Colombian gold artifacts as well as the private armory of Miguel Mujica Gallo. Perched 8,200 feet above the valley, it was hidden by mountains and semi-tropical jungles for 400 years until discovered by Hiram Bingham of Yale University in 1911. Take as much time as you need to study the mysterious ruins, hike Huayna Picchu, stroll to the Inca Bridge or walk toward the Inca Trail to find the legendary Sun Gate.Afternoon shuttle bus to the train station for your return trip to Cusco.Upon arrival, transfer from rail station to hotel.Accommodation in Cusco (B)Day 7: Cusco - Puno Breakfast at the hotel.Rail journey through the Peruvian Andes to Lake Titikaka - Today one of South America's most extraordinary overland trips takes you by rail to Puno passing through striking highland scenery and picturesque Andean villages. Upon your arrival in Puno on the edge of Lake Titikaka, a host will meet and assist you in transferring to the hotel and help you to register. Box lunch is included. Please note, the train only operates on Mon/Wed/Sat and with a minimum passenger load. If it is not operational on your travel day, the journey through the Andes will be by motorcoach.Accommodation in Puno (B, L)Day 8: Puno and Lake Titikaka Breakfast at the hotel.Half Day Excursion to the Uros Indian at the Titikaka Lake - This half day excursion will take you to the highest navigable lake in the world, to visit the floating islands of the Uros Indians, considered themselves Lords of the Lake, and they were convinced they had black blood because they did not feel the cold of the lake and the winter.Half Day Excursion to Sillustani Burial Towers - These burial towers (Chulpas), are ancient and impressive tombs from the pre-Inca period and they were built from a mixture of stone and adobe, and served as burial places for chiefs and important people.Accommodation in Puno (B)Day 9: Puno - La Paz, Bolivia Breakfast at the hotel.Combination of bus and hydrofoil from Puno to La Paz - Drive to Copacabana passing Pomata and Juli. After lunch in Copacabana you will cross the lake to Huatajata by hydrofoil, visiting the Moon and Sun Islands. According to the legend, Manco Capac and Mama Ocllo (sun and daughter of the Sun God Inti) came down to earth on this island in order to improve the life of Andean people. Walk up Inca steps to drink from the Sacred Spring, believed to grant eternal life and happiness. Enjoy a breathtaking view of the lake before arriving at Huatajata. Motorcoach from Huatajata to La Paz. All transfers are included.Accommodation in La Paz (B, L)Day 10: La Paz Breakfast at the hotel.Tiahuanaco Ruins Tour - Considered to be The Cradle of the American Civilizations, this city was once the largest in the world. Parts of this highly developed culture are the Akapana pyramid, the Monoliths, the temples of Kalasasaya and the underground temple of Kontiki. Stand in awe in front of the Sun Gate with the crying God carved on the upper front part. Wonder in amazement at how hundreds of years have passed, but the stones beneath your feet were walked on then as they are today.In the afternoon, tour the extraordinary city of La Paz, with its towering structures and colorful downtown market. Tour includes a visit to the Open Air Museum, Casa Murillo (Colonial Museum) and the residential section of Obrajes. Next stop, you step out of your space shuttle onto the dusty surface … or that is step out of your bus and look out over Moon Valley. Have plenty of film on hand, this is the closest simulation you'll find of the moon on earth (NASA envies the realism of this place). Eroding sand has left astounding clay formations that resemble the moon's surface.
