Altiplano Expedition
Spend a full month exploring the Peruvian and Bolivian Andes, Altiplano, and coastal desert. Travel the world"s largest salt lake, deepest canyon and highest capital. Stroll the colonial cities of Sucre, Cuzco and Arequipa, cruise Lake Titicaca, stay with a local family, and hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.

Itinerary
Day 1 Arrive Lima
Arrive in Lima at any time.

Day 2-4 Pisco / Nazca
Travel by bus to Pisco, renowned for its liquor, from where you can take an optional excursion to visit the wildlife-abundant Ballestas Islands. Travel by bus to Nazca, stopping to check out the sand dunes of Huacachina, with a sandboarding option. Take an optional flight over the desert to view the mysterious Nazca Lines, then tour a Pre-Incan cemetery. Night bus to Arequipa.

Day 5-7 Arequipa / Chivay / Colca Canyon
Peru's second-largest city is surrounded by the Andes mountains. Spend two days exploring the Colca Canyon, one of the deepest canyons in the world and home to the majestic Andean Condor.

Day 8-9 Cuzco / Ollantaytambo
Fly to Cuzco and explore this colonial gem. Travel through the Sacred Valley and visit ancient Incan sites, including the picturesque town and ruins of Ollantaytambo.

Day 10-13 Inca Trail to Machu Picchu (3B, 3L, 3D)
Begin a once in a lifetime journey on the ancient trail of the Incas. Local porters and guides ensure that the trip is worry-free, and fascinating ruins and spectacular mountain scenery fill every day of the hike. On the final day watch the sunrise over Machu Picchu. Return to Cuzco in the evening.

Day 14-16 Cuzco
Relax and explore the sights and sounds of Cuzco. Rafting, horseback riding and mountain biking are all possible options.

Day 17-19 Puno / Lake Titicaca (B, L, D)
Enjoy spectacular views on a full day of travel through the high Altiplano region to Puno. Take a boat trip to visit the Taquile and Uros islands, followed by an overnight immersion into Peruvian rural life with a homestay in a small village.

Day 20-21 La Paz
Journey along the shores of Lake Titicaca to the highest capital in the world - La Paz. Options include the Tiahuanaco ruins, the Valley of the Moon, or Chacaltaya.

Day 22-25 Bus/train to Uyuni / Salt Lakes Excursion (3B, 3L, 3D)
Travel to Uyuni by night bus/train from La Paz. Journey through the piercing blue skies and white salt flats of the Salar de Uyuni. Spend three days exploring the remote flats by 4X4 vehicles.

Day 26 Potosi
Visit UNESCO World Heritage Potosi, the highest in the world and a silver mining centre during colonial times. Descend into the working mines for an eye-opening optional excursion.

Day 27-30 Sucre / La Paz
Sucre is a lovely, historic town with museums and colonial buildings. Fly to La Paz for a last night out on the town.

Day 31 Depart La Paz

1. Last minute bookings of this trip and all trips that include the Inca Trail will be on an "on request" basis only. To make a booking request of a tour which includes the Inca Trail, G.A.P Adventures requires your full name, date of birth, nationality and passport number.

2. Please advise at time of booking if you do not wish to hike the Inca Trail. Instead you will have 2 nights in Cuzco, travel by train for a night in Aguas Calientes, and join the hikers for the tour of Machu Picchu.
